Didn't it go well? Despite the initial slow uptake of entries and poor responses from some Surrey clubs and individuals, we ended up with 41 entries and more material to show than we had time for. With some canvassing we had some remarkable entries from the adjacent counties of Hampshire and Berkshire and even Guernsey, As a result there was both a great selection of films to show throughout the festival day and it was most pleasing to see new younger film makers winning major awards.
The 2009 Festival was held on Sunday 18 January at the Electric Theatre, Guildford. There were three full sessions, the raffle and the Awards Ceremony.
The judges have considerable experience of judging festivals such as the Surrey. We had 41 movies to judge and organise for the actual show. Many entries have been supplied on DVD format. This is known to give problems with showing due to the generic unreliability of discs and players. We showed all material this year from the original media and we had three DVD players ready to deal with any itinerant DVD discs. We were confident this would prevent any problems spoiling the show. In fact we had no problems with any of the DVDs at the show, perhaps the technology is becoming more reliable at long last.
We had a renowned set of judges, who have stood the test of past festivals. Bob Hayward, Ron Prosser, Rod Willerton, David Jackson, Andrew Watson and Joan Woolmer..
