Rulesat a glance |
The rules are also published on the entry form.
All entries (other than Student entries - see Rule 3) must be amateur productions. We define an amateur movie as one made for enjoyment, not for financial reward. No person in the production may be paid other than for film processing or striping, or the transfer of soundtracks.
Movies eligible for entry are those by persons resident in, working in or whose movie club is based in: (a) Surrey, (b) London SW postal districts and Middlesex south of the Thames, (c) Hampshire or (d) Berkshire. Any movies from Sussex, Kent, or Surrey that may have 'dual' eligibility and were previously entered in the Kent or Sussex Festivals are not eligible in this Festival. Movies may not be entered if they have been accepted for entry at any previous Surrey Festival unless substantially altered.
Junior: entries made by persons aged under 18 years at the entry deadline date (ie born after 14 December 1990). Junior entries are regarded as being in a separate competition but Juniors may submit their entry in the Senior competition, rather than the Junior, if they so wish.
Youth: entries made by persons aged from 18-21 years at the entry deadline date (ie born between 15 December 1987 and 14 December 1990).
Student: entries made by persons attending full-time study at a college or university with the use of any professional assistance and facilities thereby normally available. Student entries may only compete for the Student Open Trophy.
Club/Group: entries should be submitted from the address of an official of the club or group, which need not be affiliated to the IAC. The credits must include at least three of the club members, from different households, to indicate collaborative effort.
Films may be on 16mm, Super 8mm, Single 8mm or Standard 8mm and may be silent, striped (or optical on 16mm only). Videos may be on VHS, SVHS, Video-8, Hi 8, DVD or mini-DV on standard play. DVD entries can be unreliable and should be accompanied by a tape based copy if possible. Other formats by special arrangement, which may require you to loan us suitable playback equipment.
Video entries must be the ONLY items on the disc or videotape cassette on which they are submitted. Tapes must have at least 30 seconds of blank tape at the start (to protect against damage). Film entries must have an adequate leader for projection purposes. Both videos and films should have at least 3 seconds of black picture and mute sound (no cue pips) immediately before the start of the movie, to assist the projectionist in cueing the start.
Clearance of all visuals and recorded sound is the sole responsibility of the entrant and shall be confirmed by signing this entry form.
All entries will be handled with care by experienced operators but the organisers cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage, however caused.
Senior and Youth: entries are eligible for THE LEONARD ROBINSON FESTIVAL TROPHY for the best Senior movie of the Festival and THE CROYDON TROPHY for the runner-up. Category awards are also available for Animation, Comedy, Documentary, Fiction, Natural History and Special Effects and there is an award for the best entry by an individual IAC member.
Youth: entries are also eligible for the Surrey Youth Cup
Student: entries are eligible only for the Student Open Trophy.
Junior: entries are eligible for THE COUNTY JUNIOR AWARD for the best Junior movie of the Festival. Junior category awards are also available for Animation, Documentary and Fiction.
Any award may be withheld at the Committee's discretion. Judges may also make discretionary awards.
All trophies are to be held by the winners and should be carefully cleaned and returned to the Festival Organisers no later than Wednesday 1 October 2009. Any loss or damage should be reported immediately to the Competition Officer.
Junior, Youth and Current Student entries are free. Individual IAC members (ie with a membership number and card) and Affiliated club entries pay a discounted fee of £6. Non-IAC and IAC affiliated club members without an individual membership, pay £8.
The Committee's decisions on all matters relating to the Festival are final.
