What Happened at SF-VF 2003 .....

THE SURREY FILM-VIDEO FESTIVAL WAS HELD ON 30 NOVEMBER 2003, in its 21st year. We had a record entry of 53 entries giving us over 7 hours of material to cram into 4 hours of show time.

The Festival was held at the Cranleigh Arts Centre, in Surrey. This centre includes a superbly equipped theatre, boasts comfortable raked seating for 180 people, with integrated bar and refreshment facilities.

The Festival was a biggest in recent years - Here are the Awards....

Thanks to all those entrants who have provided 53 entries.

Some facts and figures on the entries are listed below. All winners and selected others, were given a big-screen presentation, and every entrant received copies of the comments by each of an experienced panel of judges. There were no restrictions on the subject matter or running time of the entries.

Entrants

Of the 53 entries...

  • 24 were shown at the Festival

  • 11 were from clubs or groups

  • 36 were from individuals

  • 46 senior

  • 2 youth

  • 4 student

  • 1 junior

  • 27 were submitted on miniDV tape

  • 0 was on Hi-8

  • 14 were on VHS tape

  • 8 were on S-VHS tape

  • 3 were on DVD  (our first year for DVD entries)

  • 1 was on film (Super 8)

  • 13 won awards

  • 4 won Certificates of Merit

10 entries were comedy, 24 were documentaries, 11 were fiction,  1 natural history, 3 were 'other'. 4 of these were also animation.

The judges were: Bryan Richardson (Guildford Odeon manager), Bernard Clarkson and Jack Saltman.
